HUB'n'SPOKE is a European project co-financed by the LIFE programme which intends to develop an innovative model to improve the handling of the end-of-life phase of Absorbent Hygiene Products (AHP) such as baby diapers, incontinence pads and sanitary towels. The vision of the project is to revolutionise the recycling process of this type of waste, combining a new logistic model with innovative technologies. Thanks to the contribution of all the stakeholders involved, AHP waste will be given a new life, as they will be transformed into new everyday objects which will then be introduced in the market in full compliance with the principles of the circular economy.

RINASCIMENTO is a project co-funded through the PON “RESEARCH AND INNOVATION” 2014 - 2020 and FSC program by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (www.ponricerca.gov.it). It involves the realization of a new, high-performance, sustainable composite materials starting from Secondary Raw Materials generated by the recycling of used Absorbent Hygiene Products.

EMBRACED is the project launched in June 2017, thanks to the support of the EU program dedicated to Bio- Based Industries, which will allow us to create the first-ever bio-refinery in the world that will produce high value-added biopolymers, chemicals, and bio-fertilizers using waste pad and diaper products.
CIRCPACK is an EU project co-funded with the H2020 program for the development of sustainable packaging created as a result of virtuous supply chains in line with the principles of circular economy. In the context of this project we will create, among other concepts, closed-loop packaging: packaging used in the Fater SpA production chain and created by processing precious secondary raw material recovered through the innovative diaper recycling system.
MORPHE’ is a project supported through a specific co-funding program by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, thanks to which we are creating an innovative home collection bin for used diapers, made of recycled diaper plastic and guaranteeing minimum odour emissions from the waste product, thus facilitating its new recycling process.
RECOVER is a project co-funded by the Abruzzo region, in the context of the POR FESR (POR regional operations program funded by the FESR EU regional development fund) Abruzzo 2014-2020 program, thanks to which we are researching and developing prototype technology for the creation of the first-ever bio-refinery in the world, which will use pad and diaper waste products to produce – among other things – high value-added bio-fertilizers. The final phase of the RECOVER project will thus be the initial phase of the EMBRACED project described in this page.

VIRGIN is the name of the EU project thanks to which we have studied, at a prototype scale, an energy wise self-sufficient system for diaper recycling. The cellulose recovered through the diaper recycling phase will indeed be used to feed a gasification system for the production of energy that will in turn fuel the recycling system itself.

RECALL is the name of the EU project ended in 2015 thanks to which we have developed the prototype for an absorbent hygiene product recycling plant, which has led to the creation of the first-ever industrial plant of this type in the world, currently functioning at the Contarina SpA facility in Lovadina di Spresiano (Treviso, Italy).

Fater’s commitment towards a circular economy has earned it numerous national and international recognitions. It has received numerous formal demonstrations of interest by the public administration of Italian cities/regions wishing to host the FaterSMART technology in their area. A vast number of companies operating in the waste collection and processing sector have also shown interest in implementing the system at their processing plants, as is the industry in purchasing secondary raw material deriving from the process.
